When connecting to my desktop from my laptop, I have to
disable both firewalls. I tried creating ports but that
has not help.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

The desktop is running Win XP.
On your desktop click Start-> Help and Support->
Networking and the Web ->Home and Small Office
Networking -> Using the Network Setup Wizard
read, read, get a blank, formatted floppy disk. Read
about -> create a network setup floppy disk.
Start the Network Setup Wizard
Come back and tell us ow it went.

What "firewalls" are you talking about? The Windows Firewall on XP SP2 will
allow LAN traffic, and can be adjusted, if it doesn't, in Control
Panel/Windows Firewall/Exceptions tab. If you're using a third-party
firewall like ZoneAlarm, Symantec (Norton) or McAfee, you should check that
documentation.
