Have XP on desktop and laptop. Both can access Internet
fine. Cannot see shared files and cannot print from
laptop. No firewalls running except what came with
product. Files are shared. Printer is installed on
desktop and shared. Can print from desktop, but not over
wireless network from laptop.

Three hours on phone with MS Support failed to resolve
this.

Anybody got an answer?

How about anti-virus software? Anything Symantec on the desktop? Are you
sure you're part of the same Workgroup?

Yea, there's no third party virus software on the
desktop, or any firewall, except the one with the
router. I had McAfee, but have uninstalled it.

File folders and printer have been shared. They are all
part of the same workgroup. Permissions cannot be
modified in our home versions of XP.

Both the desktop and laptop can access the Internet
without problem, just no file or print sharing.

Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Broadband
software and this has not resolved the issue.

Still no go. Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks.

Tom, see if this Microsoft Knowledge Base article (it is Part 7 of
networking with Windows XP Home Edition) might help you unravel the
situation:

Chris,
I looked at the article and it did not help. Sorry Tom
for jumping in on your discussion. Tom can you ping the
other computers? I am able to type ping and then the ip
address and get a response from the desktop and laptop.
My frustration level is growing. I live in Japan and
spent 4.5 hours on my day off with no results. Not cheap
long distance. Chris, I don't want to whine, but it
seems that I am not the only one with the problem.
Please look into this further.

I only offer suggestions. I'm a user just like you are, but volunteer my
time trying to help others. If you're having a problem with the gear in
Japan, then you're going to be totally out of luck because Microsoft's
Broadband Networking products are authorized for use in North America (U.S.
and Canada) only.
