File Services for Macintosh password length

I'm having a problem with the "File Services for Macintosh" password length.

I have a Macintosh share created on a Windows 2003 server. I log onto a
Macintosh client (either OS-9 or OSX) and I use the CHOOSER to essentially
map a share.

If I attempt to map a share to a MAC server I find that I can type my
username and password (from AD) and it connects just fine.

If I attempt to map the share on the Windows server I am only allowed to
type up to an 8-character password.

It appears that some parameter on the Windows server Macintosh share is
limiting the password length to 8-characters. Can you help me locate this
parameter and set it to a number larger than 8?

Thanks,
Jim

I believe this is a restriction of AppleShare (that is, of the Apple
protocol itself), so you're kinda stuck if you want to use SFM on your
Windows machines.

If you just had OS X clients, I'd suggest just using the smb method to use
Windows fileshares as normal, and get around the limit that way.

Actually, I think you need to just install the MS-UAM for OS X or OS 9. The
default authentication method for the Windows server is clear text. Once
you install the UAM, you'll get NTLM v2 Authentication and the ability to
put in longer passwords.

You can find the downloads at:
