File Server Clustering Question

Hey everyone,

We are running a Windows 2003 domain and we have two old Windows 2000 file
servers. We are buying two new replacement servers (running Windows 2003
Enterprise.) for the old file servers. We would like to cluster them into
an active/passive node cluster.

Can anyone point me to a step-by-step document for doing this?

We have all the hardware for a cluster and a SAN in place already (EMC FC
SAN, HBA cards, FC Switches etc...). I just need a document to show me the
steps for clustering a file server under Windows 2003 ent.

TIA,

Clayton

You can start here with How to create file shares on a cluster
http://support.microsoft.com/default...NoWebContent=1

Next, I would recommend this webcast, Creating Highly Available File and
Printer Shares with Windows Cluster Service
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;325231

For File server :

Which is a better option - Active/active or active/passive.

Can anyone please let me know if there any issues with active/active as
opposed to active/passive for File server

Thank You

There are no issues with active/active for file servers. Of course, you
realized that having multiple virtual servers will mean multiple network
names that users must use to connect to the shares, right?
