Hi group,

Hope you can help me out with this urgently. We have two offices which
are connected by Point-to-Point links. The Domain controller which also
acting as a file server is kept at Office A. Some people who are in
Office B are facing lots of issues with saving the files on the server.
It keeps on cropping weird messages such as :

1) File Operation Failed
2) The Specified network name is no longer available.
3) This domain does not exist!

None of the people in Office A are facing this issue while they are
performing any activity on the server. They are able to do their work
smoothly.
Another interesting thing to note is that in Office B when they save
some files on shared folders of the workstaions they are not facing
this issue. It is only when they try to save it on the DC they are
getting these errors.

Where can be the problem ? Is there in anything i need to check for ?

Any sort of help will be appreaciated.

Hi,

Everything points comms problem, sounds like your clients in office B are
loosing their connection to the server. The fact that users in office A have
no problems suggests it not the server and the fact that clients can save
files to local shares suggests its not a problem on the client.

What is the connection between the two offices? How reliable is it? What
is the available bandwidth? Trying doing an extended ping (ping ipaddress
-t) and see what sort of replies you are getting and if you have any timeouts.

People from Office B are able to save docs and access files without any
problems in Office A. The problem starts only at the server side when
the try to access the files or save them.
thanks,

We have point to point link (2 Mbps) connecting the two offices. Both
the DC's are kept in Office A. Ping responses seems to be fine. No
packets losses. They mystery is why people from Office B are able to
save files on the workstations (shares) without any issues and they are
facing problems with the server only ? People in Office A are not
facing any such issues ? So it is not the problem with the server right
?
What i wanted to know - Is communication between Windows 2003 server
and clients encrypted ? And between workstation to workstation it is
not ?

Thanks,
