a few networking questions VPN

I have setup a VPN between a 2003 server and a NT 4.0 server using
sonicwall VPN routers. The connection is good, I can map drives, share
printers, etc, from one network to the other. Netbios is enabled on both
VPN routers. The problem is you can not see the network on the other
side. Is there a way to make one office see the other in my network
places? I am hoping that might resolve another issue with a program
running on one of the servers. If there are any good
resources/books/websites that can help educate me with this please let
me know.

Thanks
Jon

Once the VPN link is set up, it works just like two subnets separated by
a router (only slower). So browsing across the link is the same as across a
router. As long as you have a domain controller, the browser service should
be able to produce a combined browse list. See KB 150800 and 188001. The
browser service in W2k/2003 works just as it did in NT4 SP5 or later.

Jon:

Do you have a WINS server? From what I've concluded from reading postings
here and some MS articles, network browsing without WINS is unreliable.
Since you have two sites, you'd probably want to set up WINS on both the
2003 and NT 4.0 servers and have them replicate with each other, if that's
possible (you'll need to verify that WINS in 2003 and NT can be replication
partners). Either way, WINS is pretty straightforward to setup.

Regards,
Martin

I did some more research after posting this and came to the same
conclusion that I needed to look into the WINS server. I am still in the
early stages but both networks now see each other properly.

Thanks

Jon
