Hello all. I'm completely lost. I recently installed Fedora Core 4
(I've had decent luck with fedora/rh for a few years). With this
install, my NIC doesn't seem to be working. I'm going to fess up
quickly and say that I am a Linux dummy even though I've used it for a
few years now. My end goal is to have this computer connected to a
cheap router (that works), and to obtain it's IP from the router
(DHCP).
I've redownloaded the driver from intel and reinstalled it. no luck.
When I run ifconfig eth0, I get:
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
It's not RUNNING however, and I can't seem to get it to that state.
When I shut it down with ifdown eth0, it shuts down, but when I try to
bring it back up with ifup eth0, I get
RTNETLINK answers: invalid argument
In my /etc/modprobe.conf file I have:
alias eth0 e1000
When I run lsmod, I get:
e1000 116076 0 <empty>
When I run dmesg | grep eth0, I get:
e1000: eth0: e1000_probe: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection
eth0: no IPv6 routers present
I'm not sure what other diagnostics might be helpful in a response, but
please let me know.
Thanks,
anthony
