UKFSN email seems to be going down almost weekly these days. Never any
outage notices until long after the event has been resolved and
generally rubbish, even their support emails often bounce!!

It's quite clear we need to get shot of them for email, so what can we
do to get an ultra reliable email service as cheap as possible?

As I understand it if we get our own domain this will include pop3
send/receive email as well? Don't want website, just email, and fed up
changing every five minutes!

This is for personal/family use.

Don't want yahoo/gmail etc due to privacy issues.

Thank you in anticipation.

PS: UKFSN smtp problem has just cleared, so has been out since about
8am!!!

Just curious, what are the privacy issues that make yahoo or gmail
worse than a hosted pop3 account?

if i read this right (and quickly, changing search to hotmail not gmail)
(ive used hotmail for 10 years or so, same address) if i click links from
spammers, i'll get more spam...crikey i'd never have thought of that.
i do get some spam (over the years i've joined many different boards etc and
allowed publishing my address, and had it on a webpage for a few years) but
nothing i cant handle, hotmails own filters get rid of most of it. i have
friends using isps mail for a shorter time who get more spam than me. fwiw,
in the last 10 years i have changed isp lots of times, the hotmail address
is the only constant, so the only one i use

I think, or rather fear hotmail is blocked by many so emails may not
get through at all to the recipient, and also they don't do pop3.

My hotmail addy seems to be problem free these days regards spam, but
I'm not sure if it's reliable enough to send email out from.

1&1 - buy a domain for peanuts, then get their "Instant Mail" package
for some more peanuts.

I truly cannot recall any time this service has ever let me down.
