OK what recommendations do you people have for a business grade broadband
(8MBit/sec download, 500kbits/sec or better upload, static IP, uncapped or
50GB/month) service in the centre of Norwich that does not rely in any way
whatever on BT?

Does that stipulation extend to Openreach?

Depends on when you want the 50GB. If it's outside peak hours (9am -
6pm, Mon - Fri) then have a look at http://aa.nu/broadband-prices.html
although your telephone line will still be provided by BT but AAISP
will take them on if there is a problem with it.

If it's during peak hours it will be expensive but they do have
ethernet available from 10meg to 10gig (up and down) but you need deep
pockets, follow the Ethernet link on the left hand menu.

You don't.

At the very least the wires into the house/office will be BT.

And very expensive, as it means custom fibre or whatever laid to the
premises.

With AAISP you don't talk to BT at all about the ADSL side of things,
they handle that for you. If you really don't want to deal with BT at
all then get a line from AAISP as well and then they will deal with
everything on it. Obviously if there is a voice fault you have to deal
with it.

OP here - I know about AAISP. I've also seen the difficulties they have had
with BT - see for example
http://groups.google.com/group/uk.ne...dbd7bbc0b4f307

I've also experienced a problem where Zen were told by BT that there was EMU
(Emergency Maintenance Undertaking) and that Zen should not report the
fault. This had not cleared after a week with Zen pushing every day. Zen
finally persuaded BT to send an engineer out on the Monday morning 08:00.
Curiously the fault cleared at 01:00 that morning!

The issue really is to achieve an internet connection without the
involvement of BT.
