We have a standalone member server running DHCP on a Windows 2000 domain.
I have a few Windows 2003 member servers in this domain, and I would like to
put those servers on a separate network with their own DHCP scope, and have
them receive by DHCP their domain completion lists for DNS lookups. Under
Windows 2000, you can only assign those manually, and what a pain that is.
My question is can I get the capability to autoassign domain completion
information to the Windows 2003 member servers just by upgrading the DHCP
server to run Windows 2003?

Obviously the Correct title should have been Windows 2003 DHCP, not Windows
2003 DNS. Sorry about that.

I'm not sure what you mean by a domain completion list or domain completion
information. Maybe it's the terminology I'm not familiar with.

Are you speaking of providing DNS addresses along with IP configuration to
DHCP clients? If so, under Scope or Server Option 006, provide the DNS
addresses and in what order you want the clients to use.

If you have a separate subnet that you want to setup DHCP on with a
different DNS addresses for the clients, that is fine. That is configurable
per scope or server. If you have a Server Option, it can provide the same
options to all scopes, but it can be overridden by any Scope Option
configured differently from the Server Option.

Execute the command IPCONFIG /ALL. The data I want to autoconfigure is
what IPCONFIG names the "DNS Suffix Search List".

This information is configured manually in TCP/IP by going to the Advanced
TCP/IP properties, and selecting DNS tab, and entering DNS suffixes into the
area named "Append these DNS suffixes (in order)".

So I would like to supply the DNS Suffix Search List automatically through
DHCP, and I read online you can do that now in Windows 2003. I'm checking
does this only apply when the client is Windows 2003 and the DHCP server is
also Windows 2003?
