Hello All,

Has anyone successfully used a Linksys WPC54G wireless card with FC3
and ndiswrapper? I would be interested in hearing the details if you
have.

I'm running the 2.6.9-1.667 kernel and ndiswrapper-1.1 with no luck. I
keep getting kernel panics when I try to load ndiswrapper.

Thank you.

I had no problem at all. The laptop in question would be running
2.6.10-1.770_FC3.

Thanks Paul, what version of ndiswrapper did you use and did you use
the Windows driver from the disk provided by Linksys?
Thanks again.

I'm currently also in the process of installing a Linksys wireless card
(PCI) WMP54G
I use FC3 2.6.9-1.681 with ndiswrapper-1.1
I can install ndiswrapper with /sbin/modprobe ndiswrapper
also I can issue command /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
But when I ussue command /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 key xxxxxxxxxxxxx
then the system returns with Segmentation error and I can not issue any
command in terminal since after this command terminal freezes
If I undertood you wel then you did not even reach this point?

Eddy

Hi Eddy,

I actually did reach that same problem initially with a Linksys Card
which was Version 4 of the firmware using RH9.0. I had another post
where I explained that my original linksys V2 card died and I returned
it to Linksys for another. I received a V4 card of the same model,
WPC54G. I was able to load ndiswrapper, set the Access point, essid,
etc, but when I tried setting the key, the card wouldn't accept it and
then the pcmcia services had to be restarted. Therefore, I thought the
later version of firmware was the problem, so I went and bought yet
another card that was a V2. At the same time I upgraded to Fedora Core
3 also thinking a newer kernel would be useful because ndiswrapper-0.10
was the latest that would work with the RH9.0 kernel.
Once I upgraded, ndiswrapper would compile all of the way up to version
1.1, but now caused a kernel panic, so I tried every release down to
0.9 to no avail. So, now I have two wireless cards that won't work and
I can't even load the driver anymore without freezing up the
machine....
They only work in "that other OS" of course....

Currently, my ndiswrapper is 1.1 but I've used most versions since 0.10
(and possibly before) without problem with the exception of a release
candiate which used to produce a complete lockup. The drivers were from
the supplied CD.

Paul,
During installation of ndiswrapper I got a warning about 4k stack size. Some
searching revealed that some windows drivers require 12k or more. I also
found that at the Lucent ? site (driverloader) a kernel with 16k stack size
is available for download. Maybe this is the problem? I'l keep un
searching. But still hoping some one can give us a clue.

I saw the warning and successfully pretended I hadn't!
