Fax using ADSL Modem?

Simple question from newbie - is it possible to use Microsoft Fax over
an ADSL modem? Doesn't seem to work for me?

No, you can't do that. It's not the type of modem that you can use a FAX
with, you'll still need a modem attached to the 'normal' telephone line to
use a fax.

Though there is at least one service to allow sending of a text
message (some allow for embedded graphics, though I've not yet
tried/needed that) to a gateway server which then sends a fax
on your behalf. See http://www.tpc.int/

[ In the UK, Demon Internet sends out the faxes, with a half-
page advert for Demon on the lower part of the cover page.
They provide free sending to geographic (01/02) numbers. ]

Yes, that's true but they are email to fax gateways. Some are free and some
are paid for but, IMO, the best thing to do is use a fax modem.
