Faulty Netgear routers

Got two Netgear routers that have both recently failed. Do the symptoms seem
familiar to anyone, or does anyone have any ideas on how to get them
working?

Netgear DG632 (Version 3.40 Firmware). Completely dead other than power and
LAN lights - they're on, but the rest of it is dead. It doesn't respond to a
ping, doesn't attempt to sync, won't even respond to a reset - nothing. This
is a new fault - it had been working fine. No sign of what could have
happened to effect it.

Netgear DG834GT (Version 1.01.28 Firmware). Won't sync, doesn't even attempt
to - no sign of the ADSL/WAN light at all. The modem status in the interface
just sits on connecting, but still the ADSL light stays off. Every other
part of the router works fine, LAN, wireless etc. This is also a new fault -
it had been working fine. Plug a different router on to the same cable and
it syncs within a few seconds as normal.

TIA

Rupert

Did they fail at the same time ? (i`m wondering if you might have had a
fault in the vicinity on the mains network)

No - a few days apart, and they were in different locations anyway.

Had more than one NetGear DM602 do something similar to your first - first
one was out of the blue, second one was a (second) replacement for first
under NetGear 3 yr warranty, and it failed after an unsuccessful firmware
upgrade.

You will have to contact NetGear via their website.

There must be more than 300,000 transistors in a Netgear router. It
could be any one of them.

Luckily my Netgear router was DOA, after wasting a week trying Netgear phone
support (in India) and email (they replied 4 weeks later) I returned it.
Never again.

Martin

I have already requested a replacement for my first faulty unit. It took
just under an hour on the phone.
