Fatal exception with network control panel applet

I get the message "Fatal exception 0D has occurred at
01FC:00008309 . . ." when I do "Start, Settings, Control
Panel, Network, OK" after restarting up my computer. I
can hit any key while looking at a blue screen and the
error window and I get back to the desktop. When I
repeat "Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network, OK" then
there is no fatal exception--after the first instance. I
don't even have to make any choices in the Network applet,
for this to happen. I could use some suggestions on tacks
to take to prevent this from happening.

If I do make the choice "Client for Microsoft Network,
Properties, Logon on to Windows NT domain" in the Network
applet, that choice doesn't survive the restart of the
computer. Plus, the computer now doesn't successfully
logon to a Windows NT domain (I had it doing so on
4/10/04).

By tinkering with msconfig.exe I determined that CVPND
(related to Cisco VPN client) seemed to be the culprit.
So, I've now moved on to a separate problem ("No domain
server was available to validate your password").
