Fasthosts and UKreg - Down again?

Can it be possible? All my domains redirecting through UKreg are
unavailable, UKreg itself is unavailable, the Fasthosts control panel
is unavailable and the Fasthosts support site is unavailable - and yes
that is the one sporting the proud boast of the Fasthost Award Winning
support service. An answering machine message explains that there is 'a
problem' with the UKreg customer database and incorrectly states that
the Fasthosts status feed will be updated with information. I spoke to
someone in support who informed me that all of these problems are the
result of 'planned maintenance'. In the middle of the day on a Monday!
What a bunch of amateurs.
Anyway, the point of this rant is simply to ask for suggestions of US
companies offering reliable domain services. I have a dedicated server
with Fasthosts and will be moving that in due course too (like all the
other Fasthosts sites, this was unavailable to BT customers last week
for half a day). So far as I can tell from scouring groups such as
these, there are no UK companies in this business that are able to
offer a respectable service but I assume that, as with so many things,
the Americans do it better.
All suggestions will be gratefully received. I'm not looking for cheap,
just for effective.

Errrrr, you perhaps haven't been "scouring" as well as you might have.
www.hostroute.co.uk / www.hostroute.com / www.hostroute.ca might
well provide what you need. But far from clear precisely what you want.

For domain registrations, I've been very happy with a handful of US-based
services (for .com/etc domains, not .co.uk, where there are sometimes quite
a few 'sting in the tail' problems, such as them not knowing how to change
an IPSTAG, and charging silly money in the first place!)

I'd suggest posting your detailed requirements in alt.internet.providers.uk
and/or uk.net.providers so that you can get views from some others who
have dedicated servers themselves, not many will look in on this group.

It's a first for me with UKreg but I have had lots of trouble with
Fasthosts, who now own UKreg, I believe. They told me the outage
yesterday was planned maintenance. Who would plan maintenance in the
middle of a working day? I would say I have had 10% down-time from
Fasthosts in the last year - first on a hosted solution, then on a
dedicated machine.

If you think thats bad you should try www.wwwserver.co.uk, whilst they only
charge £25 for 2 years, you really get what you pay for.
Down often, slow, staff have not got a clue. Ummm. But it is cheap and it works
sometimes!
