How fast of a connection do I need?

I want to transfer 10 100 meg files at the same time and I dont want
the transfer to take more then about 15 minutes. What kind of a
connection would I need between point A and B? Sever T1's? Both
servers will be running Windows 2003 if that matters. Thanks

Greetings,
Lets do some math:
100x1024 = 102400
102400x10 = 1024000
--------------------------
60s x 15 = 900
--------------------------
1024000/900 = 1138 kbps needs to be transfer to meet your window

An uncompressed T1 traveling 3000 miles on a public service will transfer
roughly 890 Kbps of actual data.

A T1 with a perfect connection would transfer 1536 kbps. Things like
Distance, Quality of Service, Throughput, etc all matter. If all these files
are going to one place, the server on the other end might slow your rate
down. Also you have to keep in mind, your not transfering a 1 GIG file, your
transfering ten 100 meg files at once. Your switches and routers must be
taken into account on what they can actually handle from multiple
connections.

Personally I'd say you can always go with a T1 and up the bandwidth as
needed. A T1 would probably be a good start. Others might have some better
insight.

Hope this helps,

Math:

10files * 100MB/file = 1GB total data
1GB = ~1000KB
1000KB * 8bits = 8000Kb
15min * 60s/min = 900s

XKbps = 8000Kb/900s
X = 8888Kbps or >8Mbps

So if I did that right you might be able to do this using a 10Mbps connection,
assuming no other traffic on the network.

Don't forget about overhead, which is at least 5% for TCP. UDP is a little
less, but not much. Also, when you push the peak of your bandwidth, the
amount of dropped and retransmitted packets increases dramatically. I don't
think there is any way you could accomplish this with a 10M pipe, even if it
were dedicated to nothing but this transfer.
