FairBroadband

I am using FairBroadband because of their Parental Control service
which cuts off access to X-rated sites at the source.

This means http://www.fairbroadband.co.uk switch off x-rated sites
and my teenage kids have no chance to view these sites, even
if they are home alone or in their own bedrooms.

I have tried all the other parental control software offers, but my
kids know how to uninstall these from the computer.

I wish there was an option whereby I could add sites I find
offensive to the pool of sites that has already been selected
by http://www.fairbroadband.co.uk.

There's a business idea.

You could always buy a router (such as a Netgear) & block them with
parental controls. If you don't let them know the password (after
changing it of course) you have effectively blocked them even closer
to home & you have to chance of adding sites as they become known to
you.

Huh? Don't give them Admin rights on the PC. Any decent version of
Windows and all versions of MacOS / Linux will allow you to create
'normal' accounts that cannot alter the PC configuration.

Also:
Keep the kids' Pc in a public room.
Tell them you will be randomly monitoring the sites they visit.
(you probably won't even need to do this but its trivial to do if you
have a decent router that can log connections)

Note that the solution is not technological, thats only going to
assist you.

no matter what you do, new sites will appear that you don't know
about. Education and training are better fixes.

Hi,

OpenDNS allows you to filter sites based on several catagories. This would
work with any ISP.

In conjunction with a limited account (XP, Vista) where users cannot alter
settings would seem to offer a solution.

However there is no substitite for parental supervision.

Kind Regards

Simon

The original poster, "HelloThere" is a spammer who's also spamming
uk.rec.cars.* ng's and it's very unlikely that he was asking a serious
question.

Requires an interest in parenting in the first place.

until they use TOR or proxy server! They just use P2P, newsgroups or go
to a friends house. You must be stupid if you don't realise that. Stop
spamming, it's been tried before and doesn't work.

You can always tell when an ISP is a bit short, they cause a few problems
until the required income is reached.
