I am currently setting up a Server 2003 based network with 2 IBM servers, 1
of which will be a secondary domain controller with DFS replication, AD and
Exchange site replication. I want to utilize the 2nd nic on these servers to
provide a high speed connection to handle all the replication traffic. What
is the best way to achieve this. Spo far, I have been unable to get the
servers to communicate via these interfaces. I want to try to avoid any
traffice between the servers to travel through the switch. Anyone any ideas
or tips.

Are you using a cross over cable to plug the two servers together?

That is correct. My problem is more to do with configuration.

Forget it. It isn't going to work like you think.

272294 - Active Directory Communication Fails on Multihomed Domain
Controllers

191611 - Symptoms of Multihomed Browsers

Secondly, ..replication traffic is not the heavey traffic that you may
think.

Run a standard configuration of a single nic in each server. If you are
worried about the lines between the Servers and their Switch being a
bottleneck, then replace the nics with Gigabit Nics and use a Switch with at
least two Gigabit ports. Plug each server, with its gigabit nic, into the
respective Gigabit switch port. The backplane of any good switch runs at
2gig or 3gig or better speeds and will handle it just fine. It would
require 10 hosts (2gig backplane) or 20 hosts(3gig backplane) on the same
switch with the servers, all making huge file copy/transfers at exactly the
same moment before it would overload the switch's backplane bandwidth. That
could easily be prevented by using a switch dedicated for the server's use.

Cheers for your input. You may well have saved a reasonably good head of
hair,
