Every Win98 laptop I ever had tended to create "phantom" devices which could
slow everything down to a crawl. Based on that experience, here is what I
would try...
Remove your card from the laptop, then uninstall the software & drivers.
After that is done, boot into Safe Mode. Once there, open Device Manager
and tell it to show hidden devices. Check your network adapters to see if
there are any stray WPC11's hanging around. If so, delete them all.
Once they're all gone, power off and then re-boot the laptop. Re-install
the drivers & software, following Linksys' instructions, to the letter.
