I have a Dell notebook that I am trying to install a
Ethernet Network Card by SMC, the EZ Cardbus 10/100. When
trying to install the driver off the floppy, I keep
getting a message that the computer is looking for a file
on my Windows 98 Second Edition and to insert the CD,
which I do, and then get a message that says it cannot
find file d:\INSTALLS\WinCabs\98se\dhcpsvc.dll. I am
stuck. It asks if I want to skip this file. I don't know
what to do. This notebook has had its harddrive
reformatted and the Dell Resource disk was used to set the
computer back up. Thanks.

See if you have the Windows setup files (search for a folder containing
several dozen files that begin with WIN98 and end with the letters CAB) on
your hard drive, if you do you can tell the driver installer to look there
for the files it needs.

I have the exact card installed in a Sony laptop running Win98se. Go
to the SMC web site and download the latest drivers for the SMC8036
card. Then follow the installation instructions. When you are asked
for Win98 files point to c:\windows, then c:\windows\system, then
c:\windows\system32 until the installation program finds the right
files. I have had the problem you are having when I install this card.
The SMC installation CD even has problems with finding SMC files. The
download package at least has all of the SMC files. And on my system,
all of the windows files were there in one of the directories I
mentioned.

regards, jimbo
