externel modem problem

Hello everyone,

I will be as brief as i can in explaining my
problem. I am trying to use an externel modem through serial-port to
connect to the internet. i am facing some problems. here is the
informaton you will need:

SYSTEM: Debian "sarge" on AMD64 with ASUS K8V-MX motherboard

from BIOS: Serial Port2 address: 2F8/IRQ3

from manufacturer: D-Link's DFM-562E++, V.92, 56000bps,
data/fax/voice

It configures my modem properly without any problem. when i dial my
ISP's number then i hear the "phone's default tone" coming through the
modem & lights go up but it does not dial the number and disconnects
itself. (Errors &
outputs are given down here.) If i pick-up my phone and dial the number
myself then it dials & i hear the "noisy sound" of connecting to
internet. I have both "pulse and tone dialing" fascilities available on
my phone.my friends are using the same phone number & they are working
fine. earlier i was using windows and i was using the same phone
number, username & password through an internel modem to connect to
internet. It never gave any problem, now under LINUX with externel
modem it is not working.

may you help me out?

thanks in advance

Well it's me again. the same person who wrote this l..o..n..g problem
and i am writing this as i have solved it
just by doing this:

I only changed the "1st init script" in my </etc/wvdial.conf> to look
like this.

Init1 = ATX3

i.e wait for 2nd tone and that's it. hence whole <wvdial.conf> looks
like this:

[Dialer Defaults]
Phone = 172222
Username = 220778
Password = d369bomb
New PPPD = yes
Modem = /dev/ttyS1
Baud = 115200
Init1 = ATX3
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem

yu can have a look at the older problematic one above & i found the
solution @

not a hard problem while i thought so. posting it so that others need
not waste time on such small things.
