Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good cheap external modem to use on my RH 7.3 box
and a relible UK site to order it from? I know most external, serial modems
will work on Linux but there are a few that won't (or need excessive
configuration). Unfortunately I had my fingers burned when I ordered an
internal "hardware" modem which turned out to be a Winmodem with an
accelerator chip, so I want to be absolutely positive this time.

Having no Internet access is the one thing stopping me from using my Linux
box over my Windows machine, please help me rid myself of M$ once & for
all!

Thanks, Jason.

.... cant go wrong with us-robotics, zoom/hayes, 3com, multitech.
just be sure it isnt a PNP modem and i'd also steer clear
of USB modems.

Go to a used computer store and by an external modem there. You should
be able to pick one up for a few poundsi since loads of people have
gotten rid of theirs for broadband.

Yep, or get one for a few bucks from ebay, I'd go for a
3com/Us-Robotics, have a "Sportster (56kbaud)" flying around
somewhere. Always worked like a charm.

This fall I would have recommended Mutlitech, but I'm having trouble
getting an RMA from them, and can't recommend them until their service
department gets its act together.
