I got a D-Link DI-713P Router and now want to increase coverage.

If I understand correct the two antennas are used for diversity operation.
One for receive only and the other also for transmission. But which is
which? I should connect an outdoor antenna to the transmitter connector or?

Thanks for any tip.

Olle

With diversity antennas the access point uses the best of the two
antennas, based on receive level , ignoring the other antenna. It will
work with only one antenna connected. The first remote device to
connect to the access point determines wich antenna is used for all
that connect after it.

With one external antenna and one standard antenna, each seeing some
signal, diversity will toggle between the two, giving poor results, and no
benefit from the external antenna. It will not always use the "best"
antenna.

With one external, and one disconnected, the antenna port without
signal will not be used as frequently, and it will appear that the good
antenna is always in use.

Hi

You should be able to Telnet into the D-Link, type ? at the prompt for a
list of options, and you should find one about setting the Antenna, you
basically set from "Best" (which makes a selection between the two) to a
number that selects one of the antennas for use always.

For the DI-713p, I don't see anythgin about telnet in the users guide.
There is serial console access, but it doesn't say anything about antenna
selection.

This is not always a good Idea BTW. Test it to see if it works. It is good
it theory but sometimes does not work in practice as well as one would like.
