I have broadband internet from a cable supplier (NTL). They have brought the
cable in on the ground floor. My computer is on the next floor. Is it
possible to split the connection on the ground floor and pass this to a
second socket that is reachable from my computer?

I know I can go wireless but this can be insecure and unnecessary.

Thanks.

Sure.

U just extend it like if you had a second TV set. If u have many
outlets, and/or the cable run is long, u may need/not a signal
amplifier (one designed for cable modems with passive return). But
yeah, do it.
