Hi,

Can I use a 802.11b access point to extend the signal of an existing
802.11b access point? If so, do I simply make sure the SSID and WEP
setting are the same? Thx EB

Yes, assuming the second access point is wired to the same network as the
first. Use a different channel at least 5 channels away from the channel of
the first access point.

It's called a repeater and yes they exist. What's your main AP?

What manufacturers offer a repeater? What kind of overall speed "hit"
(if any) does one incur if a repeater is used?

Thanks,
Harvey

There are also dual radio repeaters that are much more expensive. It's less
expensive to add a client and access point to achieve the same thing with
inexpensive devices.

D-Link DI-614+. I don't see any wireless repeaters on D-link's web
site... What do you suggest? -- EB

My access point (D-Link 614) is in my third floor loft where the
broadband connection is. The signal is pretty week on the first floor
at my dining room table. -- EB

Don't know the layout and the particulars, but based on your comments,
moving the AP to the 2nd floor should get you good coverage across all
floors, correct?
