I'm currently looking to set up a wireless network with the following:
A Linksys BEFW11S4 (i've read about all the problems with version 4 of
this unit--is there another version out yet?..Another unit you would
suggest?) To that router I plan to connect 2 computers wired. With
the wireless portion I plan to connect a laptop and a microsoft xbox
via a bridge. Our house is too big to cover with one access
point--and I emailed linksys with suggestions on what to do. They
suggested the WAP11 wireless access point. In setting up this second
access point, will just placing the new access point within the range
of the first access point extend the area of my network wirelessly?
OR will cable need to be run from the router/access point to the
second acces point. I've read something about bridging them, but I'm
not exactly clear.

Please reply back with your suggestions and advice.

I had the exact same problem and installed the Linksys WSB24 wireless signal
booster -- it installs in literally 2 minutes with no change in software
setup, and my wireless network now works everywhere from my basement to my
third for attic in an older home with plaster walls on a metal lathe.
