Even if you can do it, its not a great idea. First of all, you really don't
want 5,000 users having to change their passwords at one time. This could
cause traffic problems. Secondly, with 5,000 users, I can personally
guarantee that you will be receiving at least 500 support calls the next
day. This will be despite having printed explicit (with pictures)
instructions on what you are doing.....
Map out a strategy that
1) expires users in smaller groups over a couple of weeks.
2) Documents the changes, why it is being done and what they have to do.
3) Get the documentation to them at least a week prior to password
expiration.
4) if possible, have one on ones with each group just before it takes
effect. Believe me, face to face will reduce your support calls (Note that I
didn't say *eliminate* them).
