Excellent signal from repeater but cannot ping router?

I just set up a D-Link 800AP as a repeater for a Linksys wireless
router. The signal quality near the repeater is excellent, and my
computer gets an IP number assigned from the DHCP server on the
router, but nothing else works. I ping the router and get nothing.
D-link technical service says this is due to different chipsets (they
say Texas Instruments in the D-Link and Prism in the Linksys). Has
anyone had luck having D-Link repeat frames from Linksys? Thanks,

-Doe
