Lately we've been experiencing a problem with excel files on network drives.

When you open them they say "already opened by (yourself)" and you are
forced to open them read-only....

These files do a SQL query on startup.

I am certain they are not already in use. I've restarted the servers and
workstations.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

Antivirus and opportunistic locking?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296264

Try uninstalling the AV and disable the oplocks..

Disabling Opslock doesn't help.... This is only happening with these Excel
files that do a SQL query

Same problem message...
