Hi,

I want to force my machine (RHEL 4) to act sa router. But in
/etc/sysconfig there is no static-routes file as it should be.
If I add route with route add command that is not permanent.

Does anyone knows what is the problem?

Create it and it will work.

What is the syntax of command. Do I have to
restart some service after making changes?
How can I verify changes, will the route command
display changes in /etc/sysconfig/static-routes?

What is /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth0 file?

That you did not put in that file with the static routes?
That Redhat does not use that file?
I do not know, but if you think such a file should be there, put it in.

An Mandrake 10.1, the info is not in that file. It is in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth0
(or whateever the interface name is)
It also has a note re Redhat config which seems to be in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/*.route

service network restart

The route command shows the state of the computer routing tables. It has
nothing to do with those files.

That is probably the file you originall y wanted. Why did you think
static-routes was the file the system used?

(RTFM)

Recent RH version use (for eth0):

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-eth0

See RH documentation CD/DVD that came with your distro for
details, the rh online docs or/and download the documentation
..iso from rhn.

Good luck
