Errored seconds

What rate of "errored seconds" should one reasonably expect on an ADSL line?
My router seems to get 1 ever couple of days. My friend seems to get
several every 15 seconds.
What is the general experience?

TIA
Chris

My router (510v4) seems to log about 1 every hour (local end) and none
at all on the remote end.

I used to get errored seconds a lot when running my ST 530 on USB and it
really slows surfing down. A reboot would sort it out but not last very long
before it started again, perhaps a couple of hours, often much less.
I changed the connection to Ethernet and haven't had the problem since.
So I think it's really a USB problem --- it seems looking around the net
quite a few people get this errored seconds problem which leads to a slow
connection problem or irregular connection and I think one cause is the
quality of USB on the motherboard and also the chipset.
Some motherboards seem to connect a USB modem better than others -- they
should all be working on the same USB standard, but clearly they don't.
Another argument is that USB isn't the best type of connection for an adsl
connection. --- it's OK for quick downloads from a camera etc or sending
some files to a printer or external hard drive, but keeping a constant
connection to the internet via an adsl modem is over stretching USB.
I have seen messages saying that running the USB modem via a powered USB hub
can improve matters if you are getting slow speeds.

Errored seconds may only mean one error in that second, an utterly unnoticable event.
However, on my link it seems to vary from 4 to 62 per 15 minutes.
It seems to not be very affected by link margin which has varied from 3-12db
(4 miles out, 512K)

Thanks to all of you that responded.

My friend has been having trouble with an adsl line for some while.
Yesterday the service failed comletely - BT had disconnected it at the
exchange!
On reconnection the errored seconds dropped dramatically and the reliability
increased - I suspect a doddgy plug at the exchange or else they plugged it
back into a different socket.
