I am trying to access resouces on a remote server through a VPN with User
Certificate authentication.

The VPN connects right away but when using a UNC path to browse for
available folders I get the following error

\\server is not available. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions

The kerberos protocol encountered an error while attempting to utilize the
smartcard subsystem

The configuration is a SBS2003 Prem with ISA installed. IAS is configured on
a Windows2003 server inside the network.

I got it sorted.

When I type in the UNC path a dialogue box pops up showing (asking) which
certificate is going to be used for authentication. I removed the username -
certname from the box which then gave me a username & password option which
worked just fine.
