Any ideas on this one?

I've had problems with slow booting and very slow fast user switching on one
XP Pro PC in my home that's running on my MS Wireless Network. (The PC is a
Dell 8300 3.0GHz with 1GB RAM, and is connected to a MN-500 base station via
an MN-510 wireless USB adaptor. All the network functions seem to be fine.)

Checking the error log on the affected PC, I see ~20 instances of the
following error each time the system boots or switches users:

"Error - Service Control Manager - Event ID 7000 - Description: The
ISLNDIS5 Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error:
the system cannot find the path specified."

I get the impression the above has something to do with the wireless
network. I've tried using the XP System Configuration Utility to disable
(i.e. uncheck in the "Startup" tab) the line for "Microsoft Broadbanding
Networking." When I do this and reboot, the error messages go away, yet the
PC's connection to the network appears to be unaffected (Intenet access is
okay, still able to access Base Station Mgmt tool, etc.)

I'm struggling with what to try next, e.g. should I try reinstalling the
network software on the PC? Permanently disable the Startup item for MSBBN?
Does the Registry need to be cleaned/corrected.....???????

Thanks

You do not need the BNU to be installed on any computer running Windows
XP. I did some searching on the Microsoft KB & I found no reference to
that service. Since I'm running Windows XP on both of my computers I
don't have the software installed.

Please do not contact me directly or ask me to contact you directly for
assistance.

If your question is worth asking, it's worth posting.

If it’s not worth posting you should have done a search on
http://www.google.com/ http://www.google.com/grphp?hl=en&tab=wg&q= or
http://news.google.com/froogle?hl=en&tab=nf&ned=us&q= before wasting our
time.

If I sound hostile or arrogant you need to read the following before
posting a question "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" at
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html (The site I've linked
to just has this article I think people should read before posting a
technical question.)
