i have RRAS running on a 2003 server to act as a dialup ISP for remote
salesman. every time someone connects i get tons of logs regarding the
browser service. usually an election is forced because a master browser was
started (the new connection??) but then i get that an election is forced
because the domain controller changed its roll. now how would that happen
all by itself??

Is your network running Active Directory or is it a workgroup? Is your RRAS
server a domain controller or member server?

When you make a VPN connection to a DC, it acquires an extra IP address
(for the VPN end point), so it becomes multihomed. Multihomed browsers have
been a pain since NT.

There are two approaches. Either disable Netbios over TCP/IP on the RRAS
interface (which requires a registry change) or put the remotes in their own
subnet (which requires enabled IP routing on the server and may require
extra routing info on the LAN). See KB 292822 and 830063 .
