erratic attenuation readings!

I have had problems with line speeds since conversion to ADSL max the BT
engineer said there was "a massive loop" on my line and he put it down to
the Cordless digital phone i was using as being faulty.

But here are 2 readings from the same set up taken within minutes of each
other with absulutly nothing changed except a modem reset.

My modem reports:

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 7712 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 9.3 dB 17.0 dB
Line Attenuation 47.0 dB 24.0 dB
Output Power 19.8 dBm 12.1 dBm


Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 7648 Kbps 448 Kbps
Noise Margin 9.2 dB 17.0 dB
Line Attenuation 15.5 dB 24.0 dB
Output Power 19.8 dBm 11.9 dBm

Could this be a crosstalk issue? any other ideas as to whats happening?

its misreporting the attenuation. The line speed is essentially the
same at the same margin with the same output power therefore the
attenuation is actually the same. No actual problem, just a bad number.

Have seen this before - one guy got his BT checker entry changed to
allow 2M services based on a 15.5 dB that one router gave him when
others said over 40.
