Equipment requirements -how to do this?

Hello,

How do I do this?

4 houses 400m,600m,500m apart only one with ADSL. I'd like to have
wireless access within 100m of each house if possible and to share the
ADSL connection.

Cost is an issue and so is power consumption .I'll be making the yagi
antenna for the long distance links. What I'm not sure about is what
equipment do I need to have local/long distance wireless and acting as a
repeater. Ideally I'd prefer not to have a PC running at each house to
maintain a running network.

Any suggestions or good http sites to read gladly appreciated.

regards,

Guy

Guy,

Are the houses in a line? ie 1500m from first to last?

Which one has the ADSL?

I would be tempted to put a WAP in the house with ADSL, with an external
(hi-gain) antenna mounted as high as possible.

Theoretically this would cover the entire area... and possibly up to 28,000
meters ... according to some sources... but this would depend on local
topography...

Sounds like a trial is needed ... install the WAP and antenna then wander
round with a notebook and net-stumbler ... use repeaters to fill in any
black-spots..

Regards

John

hi John,

Sorry I should have been clearer. House 1 has the ADSL. They don't all
have line of sight to each other.

1 can see 2
2 can see 1 and 3
3 can see 2 and 4
4 can see 3

So it's 2 and 3 that have me stumped. I need to repeat as well as roam
locally.

TIA,

Guy

Omni on 2
Directional antenna's on 1 and 3 pointing to 2
Then just create another bridge using a couple of cheap WAP11's or
similar between 3 and 4

A pair of WAP11's back to back connected to a hub is a nice easy little
bridge for this sort of thing.
