In Device Manager > Network Adapters, I have the entries

* Dialup adapter
* Microsoft TV/video connection
* Realtek NIC

I'm not aware of using anything relating to the first two. I'm disabling the
devices to see what happens.

Anyone know whether they are likely to be needed? Could I delete them
without harm?

My PC comprises HDDs, FDDs, CDROM, COM ports, Video card, NIC, USB ports and
Modem.

Regards

The Dial-Up Adapter is there because the computer has a modem. If you
don't use a dial-up Internet connection, there's no harm (and no real
benefit) to deleting it.

The TV/Video connection could be created by a device such as a TV
tuner card, USB video camera, etc. In Device Manager, right-click it
and click Properties to find out more. If you delete it but keep it
installed in or connected to the computer, Win98 will probably
re-install it the next time the system boots.

OK. Thanks. I'll leave them in place and disabled until needed.
