I am trying to trouble shoot a problem I am having with my windows xp sp2
desktops on a windows 2003 sp1 domain.

When a user click my network places, entire network, microsoft windows
network, double clicks on the domain no servers are displayed. However, if
the user types in the address bar a server name \\servername the server is
displayed and the network shares can be seen.

What is causing the xp clients to be unable to browse the domain?

Another issue - some users can search the directory when looking for a
printer, etc. others can not, all users can type the servername with the
shared printer and add it to their printers. What would cause the user to
not be able to search the directory?

Thanks in advance for your assistance

The list you see (or don't see!) under microsoft windows network is
built by the computer browser service. Normally the domain controller would
be the domain master browser and it would build this list. Does the DC have
multiple NICs or is it used as a remote access server? Both of these things
can upset browsing.

The browser service is described in KB188001 and there is a
troubleshooting guide in KB188305. Problems with multihomed browsers is
discussed in KB191611 . Note that these are all old KB numbers because the
browser service is an NT legacy system.
