Something weird happened today, and I am looking for information on what exactly happened, and how to resolve the issue.
Server: Windows 2000
Workstations: 30+ Win XP Pro
Curiosity got the best of me, and I seeked out the external IP for the network. I entered the IP into the browser address bar. I expected to receive either some sort of web page or a page not found. As I only started this job a couple of days ago, I was attempting to get to know my network a little bit.
Anyway, when entering the IP, the server went offline. It was as if the internet connection went down. However, this was not the case. No workstations were able to connect to the internet (not sure about to other workstations/shared folders) until the server was rebooted.
Does anyone know why this would happen? I assume that this is an issue that should be resolved immediately, for if anyone entered my work IP into a browser, I am sure that the network would go down once again...
