Before you delete the *.pwl (password) files, try the procedure listed
in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
How to Prevent a Windows Me/98/95 Logon Prompt at Startup

In most cases, there's no need to delete password files. Deleting
them has a potentially very unpleasant side effect: it loses your
saved passwords for Dial-Up Networking connections, web sites, shared
network resources, etc. You would have to remember and re-enter all
of them.
