I have six computers networked togeather just using a
router. The computers are all running xp home. The
computers are all the same, AMD Athlon 2400 processors
and have 256 MB of RAM.

All we use them for is to use the internet, Microsoft
Access and nortons antivirus run in the background.

The backend of the microsoft access file is stored on one
computer and it has 768 MB of RAM. The backend is linked
to the frontend which is stored on the other computers.

Basically what I was wondering is if the computers have
enough RAM. They seem to have a hard time staying
connected to the network. One computer will seem to loose
the connection and then has to be restarted in order to
regain it again. Three computers are using Access 2003
and the other three is using Access xp.

I would look into the network settings on the computers and
router. If it's a wireless network, it could be
interference with phones, microwave... Which router and
networking/wifi cards are you using?

It is a wired neatgear router with a 8 port D-link switch
connected to it. It is a wireless router but we are just
using Ethernet cords.

It works fine most of the time but every once in a while
it will disconnect. It seemed to do it more often until I
upgraded the machine the machine that the Access backend
file is stored on from 256 mb to 768 mb.

Try one of the following newsgroups then a general networking newsgroup,
a Windows XP newsgroup, or one for the networking hardware that you
have. This newsgroup is only for the Microsoft broadband networking
hardware & not networking in general.
