Enough is Enough BULLDOG!!

Without boring everyone with the full details (the problems are well
documented by many other disgruntled Bulldog users!), Id like to get
some advice on action I can take.

Basically, they think it OK to plunder my Credit Card and take money
as they feel like. In June they took £80, same again in July and now I
see they think they are going to take £110 in August. I am on just a
2MB alltime (no phone) and it should be £30 per month.

On top of this, I should now be on 2 free months as per my contract
details - but they claim they have no knowledge. I have been promised
a £120 refund (prior to the latest £110) but as expected - zilch.

I had been attempting to upgrade to their 8MB package (since March) -
but they can forget that now.

So, how do you deal with a company that ignores emails, dont answer
the phone - or when they do " cant help" or promise to call back - but
never do?

I am now equally as anxious to get a MAC code to migrate away from
these w*nkers - but how the hell can I achieve that? Companies that
cover their ears and eyes dont give those details!

I appreciate that I can speak to my CC about this - but I would also
like to make a registered complaint to anyone and everyone that has a
vested interest in the goings on at BULLDOG.

How can I force a MAC code?
How can I force THEM to refund what they owe?
How can I get away as quick as possible - I just cant take these lying
c*nts anymore.

You can't force a MAC code from any ISP - however, if you ask I am sure you
will get one?

> How can I force THEM to refund what they owe?

Have you tried posting on the Bulldog forum on ADSLguide? Seems like some
staff members are now posting there and may be able to help you.. - of
course you could tell your credit card company not to allow them to debit
money from your credit card... and inform Bulldog you withdraw your
authorisation for them to do so.

Regards
Sunil

Force? You cant.

tell your c/c company and advise of payment and non service and the c/c will
pay you back and debit bulldog unless they can prove you are wrong.

Are you saying that that can stop you from being able to migrate
without taking up as a new activation? That sounds illegal to me?

I have asked them by email and getting through by phone is imposible.

OK thanks. Will give that a go.

I was more hoping for details of authorities that regulate
ISPs/communication companies that had teeth!

Unfortunately it is correct. Giving MACs is entirely optional.

Write to Bulldog and terminate the cc debit authority.
Carbon copy the letter to your credit card company.

You will have to initiate a formal complaint.
Bulldog's complaints procedure is at

Good luck

If you're on their 2 Mbps service provided by BT Wholesale then they
should be able to issue a MAC as it's just a couple of clicks in Eco.
Good luck as they don't have to. If you're on one of their main LLU
products I can't see that the MAC system would apply as you'd have to
migrate the line back to BT so there'd be no BT ADSL service to have a
MAC code issued to.

>How can I force THEM to refund what they owe?

www.consumerdirect.gov.uk is a good starting point. Make a note of all
your expenses and time calling, writing to and chasing them. Take out
a CCJ against them if they don't refund in full after writing to them
to let them know you'll do this if they don't sort it out. After all
I'm sure they'd do it to you in an instant if you hadn't paid. Don't
forget to add on all your legitimate costs etc.

>How can I get away as quick as possible - I just cant take these lying

Get professional advice (from the CAB or a solicitor etc if need be).
Don't trust trading standards or consumer direct as a source of legal
advice but they can be useful guides. Don't expect them to take any
meaningful legal action, you'll need to do that.

Write to Bulldog giving them notice to refund your money and fix your
problems within 14 (?) days or you consider them in breach of contract
and you'll take action to recover your money owed and legitimate
expenses in restoring service from another provider. If it happened to
me and they refused to do this I'd then be tempted to just get a new
line installed by BT and try and claim all costs back from Bulldog via
the county court, but consult a professional as it depends on many
variables.

The official regulator is Ofcom (www.ofcom.org.uk) and it's always
worth firing off a complaint to them about dodgy services.

Be aware however that Ofcom give the impression of being very much on
the side of big business and have publicly stated they want to have a
light regulatory touch. Don't expect much more than a written
statement as a response.

There are two issues involved. If they're providing a product based on
a BT Wholesale ADSL service (where all ISPs share common BT provided
DSLAMs etc at the exchange) then they have the option to give you a
MAC code to allow you to move to another provider without having to
pay the £ 50 activation fee again since someone has already paid this
to BT. It's often in the ISPs interest to try and help avoid paying
this charge where possible as it's just profit for BT, but they have
no obligation to do so and may don't.

Bulldogs main product (they provide both I believe) is an LLU service
where they install their own equipment in BTs exchanges. Since they
connect you to their own physical equipment, any other provider would
still have to reconnect you to their service or back to a BT Wholesale
product and pay the connection costs of doing so. Therefor there can't
be a migration scheme as such because you would be switching between
different physical equipment.

You are of course still free to change providers as you like, you just
have to cancel one and then pay the connection fee for another, just
as if you switched from (for example) cable to BT.
