Im using the following:

Netgear DM602 Modem
Netgear WGT624 108mbps wireless router
Netgear WG511T 108mbps wireless PC card

I have a Windows XP Pro PC connected to the router via Cat5 cable and a
Windows XP Home Laptop connected via the wireless card.
At various points in the house the signal gets very weak and can drop a
little. Is there any way to enhance the signal to cover the house and garage
completely?

Thanks

Install a cabled network point to the centre of the part of the house
where the signal is weakest and plug a WAP into it.

I would have problems doing that as everywhere is now decorated with wooden
floors etc.
Can a WAP be connected wirelessly to a network?

What is more important - decoration or your network? )))

Afraid not...your next option is to get a wireless nic that will take
an external antenna. Not pretty for a laptop, I'm afraid.

If you get an old pc you could set yourself up a bridge.

Actually, you can. You can get a D-Link DWL-900AP+ and use it as a repeater
to extend the reach of your network.

Interesting - is this still working in ad-hoc mode?
