As I recall the older b cards tend to slow down when doing
encryption/decryption but b speeds generally tend to be faster than the
general home user can connect to the internet, so the over all effect is
small. Now if you are transferring files between two computers on the same
LAN using encryption it will have a noticeable effect.
Heavy downloading by one computer will slow the entire LAN down. The closer
the Internet connection speed is to the speed of the wireless connection the
more noticeable this effect becomes.
