I'm running Windows 2000 Server and would like to encryption the network
traffic of mapped drives from the clients to the server. The server and the
clients are not in a domain, and I'm not running Certificate Services. How
do I encrypt the traffic? Thank you.

You could use an IPSec policy (which would have to manually configured
on each and every system since you aren't in a domain) that requires
IPSec encryption between the server and the clients. My experience has
been that this adds noticeable complexity when troubleshooting.
Personally, I don't know that I'd recommend it. May I ask what is
driving your desire to encrypt the connections?

I have to agree. My experience has been that most folks within a
network are more computer "dangerous"(curious) than computer "savvyy".
I use ipsec when packets leave my network, but most internal issues can
be controlled with policies and/or permissions.
