I would suspect that you need an updated driver for your network card, that
also supports WPA.
I also have the WRT54G router . I am using a WPC54G Notebook Adapter(network
card). When I first installed the adapter, I upgraded the driver to version
3.10.53.6(latest at that time). This upgraded driver was the first, I
believe, to support WPA. Later when I installed the Microsoft Q815485 patch,
additional authentication options were indicated(not just WEP). At this
point, Linksys had not yet released the required router firmware
upgrade(v1.30.1) so I could not proceed any further. When I finally got the
router firmware upgrade, the new WPA function was enabled.
