Where is "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication" in Registry ?

I have an issue with a wireless connection that keeps dropping in spite of a
100% signal from the wireless network. Everything that I've found points to
the "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication" setting as the most likely
cause...however my Netgear NIC configuration dialogs don't provide this
checkbox. I'm competent enough to change it manually in the Registry...but
can't find it with confidence, even with the help of Regmon.

After a recent clean install, my connection never dropped at all until after
the first time that I used a Smart Card to RAS into the office...which I
suspect turned this setting on. That's why I'd like to learn how to turn it
back off. Thanks!

-Doug

Ok so you probably have a VPN. Try to turn it OFF when you
connect to wireless.

I don't believe it's anywhere in the registry... Most certainly it's not
available for wired connections, cannot recall anything for wireless either.

Could it be that your NIC simply does not support 802.1x authentication?

802.1x authentication is avaliable for both wireless and wired
connections (we're doing exactly that on our wired ports)...

But I agree that you can't enable 802.1x if the NIC's driver does not
support it...

Based upon your post I understand that you are using the Netgear client
configuration utility.

If that is true, then changing settings in the Microsoft client will have
absolutely no effect.

Can you verify whether the Microsoft Wireless Zero Configuration service is
enabled?

START > RUN > type NCPA.CPL
This will open the network connections folder.
RIGHT-CLICK and select "properties" on your wireless adapter.
This will open the property sheet for your wireless connection.
Select the "Wireless Networks" tab at the top of the property sheet.
Is the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" box checked?

Reply back and let us know.
