There's a package from SuSE (www.suse.com) for enterprise usage,
it's not free, but if you want/need the support, I'd take a look.

Free stuff should be found searching freshmeat.net.

SuSE's OpenExchange is great. It does everything MS Exchange does,
only better. Do you really need to use Outlook? OpenExchange works
with any mail client, but it works best from a web browser
interface. Why use horrid ole malware-friendly bug-infested
Lookout?

Look, if they are for some insane reason wedded to Outlook, then no,
there are not a lot of options. Why would anyone be stuck on
Outlook, the most efficient virus and malware vector of all time?
On the other hand, if they want a good efficient groupware server,
with a great browser interface that does not chain them to a piece
of shit like Outlook; if they want good reliable Webmail, group
calendaring, appointments, document sharing, and meetings; if they
want a product that will handle skillions more users more
efficiently than a piece of crap like MS Exchange; if they want
something that works reliably, and does not store data in some
buggy insane proprietary file format that fails as often as not; if
they want something that is sane and easy to back up and restore,
then they want SuSe OpenExchange.

There are ways to knit together the same set of features and
functions without buying SuSE's product. However you would need a
fair amount of expertise to do this. OpenExchange installs in 30
minutes, and a knowledgeable network admin will be up and running
in day or two. I've been administering MS Exchange for years- the
only reason to use it was it was a better choice than Lotus Notes
or Novell Groupwise. Which is like saying slivers under the
fingernails are better than slivers in the eyeballs.

MS Exchange costs way more, serves way fewer users per box, and is a
buggy unstable virus-friendly piece of garbage. If you really want
something better, you'll find it. If you just want to whine and
mope and expect someone to hand you a magic solution, well you're
not going to get anywhere. Do your homework. Talk to vendors, get
trial software, and see for yourself. Clients always think they
want some darn thing or another, it's your job to present them with
good solutions, instead of pandering to their ignorance. I know
it's not always possible to sell them on something new, but you
need to at least arm yourself with facts and experience, and try.
There is NO good reason to base an infrastructure decision on
Outlook- in fact that's the worst possible choice.
