A friend is looking for low cost but reliable email and webhosting deal. The
website is quite small but email reliability and effective spam/virus
filtering is important. He is leaning towards Easyspace. Suggestions for
ISPS or comments on them would be welcome.

I use (at the moment) Heart Internet - £40 per annum for a very good
package. Look here:
http://www.heartinternet.co.uk/index.shtml

The Starter Professional package is the one I use....

Hello,

Another reliable service is www.abodehosting.co.uk their Bronze
package, which I have been using for 5 years costs £29.99 p/a.

If you are looking for more features www.siteground.com is good value
at $60 p/a and also reliable, I've been using them for 2 years.

You might want to give CS New Media a bit of thought, as I have got a
..com registered and hosted with them I mainly use the email part of
the hosting though, and it has been perfect.

I have also got an account with fasthosts and have another .com hosted
with them and I have had two short periods of down time with them.

I think another.com are no longer in business. My website has been down
for 2 weeks and repeated emails have not been answered. The telephone
service has a message saying the phone service is no longer operating.

It looks very suspicios.

I don't think Gaz was suggesting anyone use another.com but was simply
referring to "another" (as in "a different") .com domain :-)

Someone posted in another group about another.com apparently no longer
responding to calls etc, so yes, it might be bad news from that quarter.
Check alt.internet.providers.uk (query from "lucy" from memory).

Oooooops,

You're quite right NNTK, that is what I was trying to say, I would not
suggesting "another.com"!

As I have one .com domain registered & hosted with Fasthosts and I
have a second .com domain registered and hosted with CS New Media and
they have been very Very good, but then I got my account as a freebie,
last Christmas Day when the owner put three or five FREE Silver
accounts up for grabs on the newsgroup:

alt.consumers.uk-freebies

It is that good that I will be paying for next years services, I would
certainly reccommend CS New Media to anybody who asks...

http://www.csnewmedia.co.uk

Best Wishes and apologies for any confusion with my first reply
(above)!

Gaz.

That was a nice touch (*), though checking the details I see that for 18
pounds fee they offer only 3 GB of web traffic a month (I paid a tenner
when there was an offer on at another service, their a/c at 19.99/year
allows a total of 100 GB of traffic and has some other generous limits)

This other crowd's dumb website expects Flash {probably a symptom of them
including the word 'creative' - which leaves me cold as it implies a
media/arty crowd, with delusions over their value/importance, I expect!}
so I won't bother to give them a free 'plug' here.

(*) or they felt it would give them a boost... I've seen folks like that
chasing after new business by responding to lots of newsgroup posts...
makes the chasers look rather desperate, while others don't mention
the fact they are hosting firms, just give answers where they can.

Well I only use the email side of the services, so the bandwidth is
not really an issue for me (yet), but I just like the ease of use of
having my own domain email, better than using bog standard ISP email.

Although given how fasthosts (the b@st@rds) have shafted me this
weekend, with a new change in their TOS. that I was never made aware
of! Anyway they went for they payment about 5 am on saturday, and it
was not paid, they tried again about half an hour later, and it was
paid (a BACS transfer had gone through by then) and they charge me an
EXTRA £23.50 not bad for half an hour!

Anyway fashosts can go fcuk themselves, I have decided to transfer my
other domain (.com) over to CS New Media. As like I said I cant fault
the service there.

Best Wishes,

Gaz.
