This gives you a few numbers:
http://www.netmonitor.org/reports/us...l&string=sagag The
number of NGs shouldn't be that important though, a lot will just be empty.

If searching text groups is your thing http://groups.google.com/ would
be a good start.

*Loads* of people do email, some do it for free. Do you need things like
AV scanning and/or spam filtering?

For text only try http://news.individual.net/ [free]
and text plus binaries http://www.octanews.com/ [pay].

If free binaries needed then sign up for http://www.bubbanews.com/ or
http://www.teranews.com/

For text newsgroups only, you can register free with
http://news.individual.net/

For textgroups, binaries, some web space and an email account, have a look
at the Claranet News and Mail Account (£9.99/year)

Details at http://www.uk.clara.net/btbroadband/

Even though that web page is written as assuming the customer is using BT
Broadband - the service will work fine on Plusnet ADSL as well

Regards
Sunil
